Nicolas is derived from the Greek Νικόλαος, Nikólaos.  The name is a combination of the words for "victory" (níkē) and "people" (laós). The name can be understood to mean victory of the people.

Vicente is the Spanish and Portuguese version of the Latin Vincent, from Vincere, "to conquer".  In the 3rd Century Spanish poem Peristephanon, by Prudentius, Vincent descends into the depths of a prison, where he triumphs over the forces of darkness and evil.  

Martin, from the Latin given name Martinus, is derived from Mars, the Roman god of fertility and war.
